This guy’s just documented my experience in the field of self-hosting 😄

The comments are priceless, but, essentially, the post reads:

I’ll see posts of others setting up massive builds at the snap of the fingers. For me it takes a little longer. I have to

  • Read every guide I can on the subject
  • Forget that one important snippet that actually lets my project work
  • Troubleshoot for hours
  • Give up and move on to another backlog of projects
  • Finally find the perfect Youtube video explaining exactly what I need
  • Get everything setup perfectly
  • Decide I want to add a new feature
  • Completely break everything
  • Struggle for days trying to get it to work
  • Realize I didn’t backup everything and start from scratch
  • Spend days rebuilding
  • I forgot how I got it working the last time!
  • Figure out another work around
  • I want to add this cool new container..
  • Start buying new hardware to rebuild/add on
  • Wait for parts.
  • Get everything to work with new hardware
  • Bug the shit out of Reddit trying to fix my errors
  • I swear I’m not as stupid as I let on
  • Get pissed off constantly that its not working, but enjoy every second of it

Unfortunately It can take me months (or even longer) sometimes to get things set up. Especially when I only have an hour here or there after work. Wish I had more time to really dedicate, but I do have fun. Hope you all feel the same!
